Training for educators and other helping professionals

Upcoming Events:

Two-day training sponsored by the Maine Principals' Association, in Augusta, Maine: May, 2011

2010-2011 is Stan's twelfth year of helping schools build schools where everyone belongs, based on a wide range of research in this field. These trainings focus on skills for:

Having a team that oversees the implementation of the bullying prevention project at the school is essential for success. So is administrative support. You can find the details of the approach that Stan teaches in his books Schools Where Everyone Belongs and Empowering Bystanders in Bullying Prevention.

Stan can present a wide range of training workshops based on your needs. These workshops range from conference keynotes and workshops, 6-hour (1 day) trainings for an entire school staff or for educators from a group of schools, two- to-four-day intensive trainings for the team that will oversee implementation, and evening parent workshops. In schools where a staff-based intervention is in place, Stan does student workshops combining interactive theater, magic, and discussion to encourage positive bystander behavior and build positive social norms. NEW for 2010-11: Stan has developed an assembly presentation: "WOKE UP this morning with my mind stayed on freedom: stories and songs of love and justice" which uses music, storytelling, and audience involvement to WAKE up youth to their responsibilities as members of a just society and school.

Comments about trainings:

To say Stan Davis cares about kids would be an understatement. His clear and passionate message captured the attention of every audience member in a rather large gathering of 750, garnering very positive reviews and many requests for a return performance. Stan opened the eyes of school professionals to the importance of addressing bullying and other negative behaviors with every child at school, especially bystanders. He provided creative, yet practical strategies that teachers and staff can actually use to sustain awareness and action in schools. We have already asked Mr. Davis to present for us again, and our school communities are looking forward to his return! — Dr. Matthew Masiello, MD, MPH Director, Office of Community Health, Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown, PA and Organizer, PA Bullying Prevention Institute, October 2007, Hershey, Pennsylvania

I want to thank you once again for one of the best workshops we have ever presented to our staff. Absolutely everyone with whom I spoke afterward was upbeat, energized and feeling that they were a part of something valuable and worthwhile. I can't remember such a reaction to any other professional development offering we have had in our school. (Elementary Principal)

Thank you for the excellent presentation you did at [our K-12 school] on 1/11/05. I heard so many positive comments and not one negative comment. It gave us the momentum to move on with our bullying campaign and a lot of sound, logical advice. One principal rated the presentation as a A+. It was nice to see teachers and staff getting excited over an in-service. (Diane Crocker, Assistant Principal, Boothbay Regional High School, Maine)

Stan has been presenting his two-day workshop, Effective Strategies: Preventing Bullying K-12, for each of the past four years for the Maine Principals' Association. This is cutting edge information for new attendees while providing an opportunity for participants to reaffirm their work and learn new strategies. One of this year's participants stated, 'Outstanding! Exactly what I wanted. I can't wait to make a difference in my school' Stan uses a great balance of interactive video, power point, reference materials and skill practice as he presents his workshop. (Larry Labrie, Maine Principals' Association)

Good morning Mr. Davis, What an informative and incredibly effective workshop! I'm the assistant principal at our middle school and read Schools Where Everyone Belongs before the training. What a phenomenal resource! Our school has used the results of a climate survey to form action teams. We have an action team who has focused on student relationships and discipline. Your workshop provided a clear structure, protocol and rationale for the work that they are proposing. This is the first workshop that our staff is still talking about, with many reading the book this summer. (From a training in May, 2005)

The feedback from your workshop has been excellent. The three counselors who had seen you elsewhere and petitioned the superintendent to bring you here were tickled with the outcome and the positive response from their colleagues. (2008)

Ongoing staff and administrator consultation via email or on-site is available.
